| June 10, 2012 More

About nine houses were set ablaze yesterday morning when unknown gunmen attacked Gwaska village in Bogoro local government area of Bauchi State, even as the residents scampered for safety.

Armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, the arsonists, who were said to be over 100 in number, had stormed the village around 12: 30 am, wearing masks.

Although eyewitnesses said that no life was lost, domestic animals and property were burnt to ashes.

Confirming the incident, the Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abdullahi Abubakar Idris, however, revealed that only five houses were burnt during the attack.

He said that the command had deployed its personnel to the village, with a view to bringing calmness and avoiding reprisal attack by victims in the affected area.

The PPRO, who stated that they were investigating the matter, assured that the perpetrators would be fished out and brought to book.

He, therefore, appealed to the people of the area not to take the law into their hands, but to always report suspicious movements to the security agents in order to avert recurrence of the dastardly event.

LEADERSHIP WEEKEND gathered that Bogoro local government area where the incident occurred, is notorious for ethnic crisis between the Sayawa and Fulanis.
