88 die in Bauchi fire incidents

THE Bauchi State Fire Service has confirmed that from January to September this year, about 88 people were killed as a result of fire out break in various places the state.

Giving the statistic yesterday in his office, the Acting Director, State Fire Service, Babayo Umar Misau, said that during the period under review, more than N67million worth of property were also lost.

Misau, who identified the major cause of the fire outbreak in the period under review as ‘electric faults’ said his men were able to save about 100 lives trapped in the fire incidents.

He pointed out that in February alone, fire killed 43 persons, 19 were saved and property worth N35million were saved.

In January, nine lives were saved, property worth N10 million destroyed while N19 million items were saved.

The acting director advised members of the public to always switch off their home electrical appliances in the night before going to sleep.
