SIX people were killed while four others were injured at Badaromo village, on the Bauchi Maiduguri Expressway, in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State when aVolkswagen Golf car they were travelling in was allegedly hit by an Army vehicle.

Some residents of Badaromo village alleged that the car was hit by the Army vehicle, which was said to be heading for Maiduguri, forcing the car to plunge under a bridge nearby.

They stated that Good Samaritans rescued the injured at the scene of the accident and took them along with the corpses of the deceased to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for treatment.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that five people died with five injured in the accident, but one of the injured later died at the hospital.

Confirming the number of people who died in the accident, the manager in charge of the Trauma Centre of the ATBUTH, Mallam Baba Hamman, on Wednesday, said that “some volunteers brought five dead bodies and five injured victims of an accident that occurred along Badaromo village. One of the injured later died while receiving treatment, which increased the number of the people who lost their lives to six.”

He, however, informed that the relatives of the victims asked the hospital management to release the corpses of the deceased and discharge the injured so that they could take them for treatment at a hospital at their village, Dingaya, Jigawa State.

According to Mallam Hamman, the hospital had granted them the permission to take away the corpses of the deceased and the injured.

When contacted by journalists for confirmation of the accident, the Bauchi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Henry Sunday Olatunji, expressed ignorance of the accident, promising, however, to confirm its veracity.
