The second edition of Aide de Camp old timers Football Competition kicked off in Bauchi yesterday.

16 football teams in the state will compete for the trophy in the competition.

The opening match kicks off between Kobi Rangers and Makera United at Kobi football Pitch Bauchi.

In his address at the opening ceremony, Bauchi State Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar charges youth to engage in football competition which he said will unify and promote peace among the citizens of  the state.

He said that sport is the most unifying tool for peace in the world.‎

“I therefore urged the youth participating in this football competition to make good use of the competition to unify the people and promote peace among young people,”he said.

The Governor who was represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Bello Shehu Illelah said sport competition  is the most unifying and inspiring development and peace tool in the world. 

“No other social activity brings people together in such great numbers, and with so much passion and enjoyment like football,”he added.

Governor Abubakar added that sport is enjoyed by all and its reach is unrivalled regardless of religion, age, gender or ethnicity and it promotes universal values that transcend language and culture.

He stressed that sport has huge potential to effect social change while improving health in form of physical and mental wellbeing and teach important values and social skills.

“But sport doesn’t just empower on an individual basis; it also unites and inspires people collectively, which builds communities,”he stressed.

On his part, the organizer of the Football Competition and ADC to the Governor, DSP Adamu Ahmed said that the essence of organising the competition is to bring citizens together, unite people and bring back the lost glory of the old football clubs in the state. 

“As well as  encourages people to participate in sport, and also aims to raise awareness about sport’s potential as a development tool, and promote peace among the youth,”he said.

The opening Competition was witnessed by two former Super Eagles players, Tijjani Babangida and Garba Lawal.

At the end of the opening match Kobi Rangers scored one goal against Makera United. ‎
